We’re continuing sneak peeks of Becoming Clissine, the first book in my Bastia series that will be released on September 20th. Clissa has grown up in a world where heterosexual relationships are forbidden, and she now faces criminal charges for consorting with a boy. Altrea, the head of the Bastil (the governing body of Bastia), has Clissa listen to the charges against her before calling the assembly to prayer. Altrea reminds the gathering of the laws and regulations of their society, but Clissa remembers the principal law.
This week’s snippet shows the beginning of Clissa’s relationship with Destral, her love interest. He is a classmate at her university, and he helps her study. Er, “helps” her study, that is.
Clissa turned her head away, trying not to hear his words. If she focused on the Bastian history exam questions, she could ignore the unwanted changes in her heart rate. She and Destral had shared a crib as babies when their parents got together. They were like brother and sister–weren’t they?
Destral wrapped his fingers around hers, patting the soft, fleshy underside of her palm. Each meeting of skin against skin blazed an unforgettable imprint. She tried to shove him away, but he lifted their linked hands and touched his lips to the inside of her wrist. She shivered with a delicious, forbidden pleasure before balling her curled-up hands in her lap and glaring at him.
