Yes, there will be an Advent Calendar question. But really, what else do you expect a spanking writer on a spanking blog to talk about? This is one of the few times that I wish I watched television shows on an actual television. I’m not a TV person (unless I’m avoiding work), and I tend to watch Hulu (that’s an online way to watch previous shows of the current season) or the videos on the network’s website. That means the day after. Yesterday, however, my Facebook/Twitter/email were a-buzz with one common refrain:
We all know that I prefer some F/F spanking action, but hey…this is *mainstream, prime-time television*! It’s not as if there lots of options. There was a brief M/M scene in Raising Hope a while back (dad giving a few spanks over jeans to adult son in order to get granddaughter Hope to eat her vegetables…no, it’s not supposed to make sense), but it’s nearly unheard of to actually *see* a spanking (even if it’s only two swats) on a show like this. I watched the three-minute clip, read a few articles online, and was a bit saddened at seeing one reviewer say that it was “freaky” and wished he didn’t have to watch.
…this week’s spanking development takes the show into racier territory, but it starts to get awkward when we actually have to watch Sheldon spank Amy during the tag. When Sheldon notices that Amy seems to be enjoying this, she tells him that maybe he should spank her harder, and then the episode thankfully cuts to black. If this is just the starting point of Amy and Sheldon’s sexual relationship, things have the potential to get really freaky for these two. Just don’t make us watch.
It’s at times like these that I remember how many people view spanking as “freaky” and people who practice spanking as “freaks”. It’s easy to forget that in this cocoon of community. I mean, how many of us would lose our jobs if we were discovered to be who we are? How many of us would lose friends, family, and acquaintances?
Then I watched the full episode (or click here…c’mon, I listed it twice!).
(Full disclosure: I didn’t like this show, but enough of my friends got together and made me watch it until I learned that it was easier to watch than get nagged. Plus, it’s helpful to watch shows now and then so I can participate in discussions of popular culture like this one.)
Today’s Advent Calendar question is open-ended. Feel free to answer any or all of the following questions:
- Did you watch The Big Bang Theory yesterday?
- If no, did you hear about it? If yes, what did you think?
- What do you think about talk of “punishment” and “discipline” and “spanking” in mainstream entertainment (film, books, television, plays)?
