Do you have a question about the Advent Calendar? Read the FAQ!

Don’t know what the Advent Calendar is, or want to see the prize list? This year we have a Kindle/Nook, hundreds of dollars in gift certificates, over 150 books, and an assortment of themed gifts. Visit the main page!

  1. No bait and switch or fake “doorbusters.”
We won’t advertise an enormous plasma television manufactured by an inferior brand with most of the features missing. We also won’t limit said television to the first five customers, hoping you will decide to buy something else since you lost your first choice.
  2. No need to get dressed.
You can play Advent Calendar in your jammies from the comfort of your home. What kind of holiday means you have to get up earlier than usual?
  3. No long lines!
You won’t have to camp overnight in the freezing cold (or scorching heat, if you’re down under) hoping to get one of the five televisions.
  4. You’re not keeping people away from their families on a holiday.
While Ana and her cheerful helper elves will be giving their time for recordkeeping, we do this because we choose to and love to see your happy responses. No one is required to work rather than spend time with loved ones.
  5. Starts fashionably in December rather than November.
    Two words: CHRISTMAS TREE!!!
  6. No hidden rules for why you can’t really get what you want.
The rules of Ana’s Advent Calendar could not be simpler.
Sign up with your name, email address, and book preferences.
Visit every day to read and respond to a post.
    Wait for prize announcements.
    That’s it!
  7. It’s FREE!
Forget “huge discounts” that don’t turn out to be such a great deal because prices have risen 200% since October. Ana’s Advent Calendar is absolutely free!
  8. No riots, fist fights, stealing toys from small children, ambulances, or general shame at the state of humanity.
Two more words: “Wal” and “Mart.”
  9. Sex toys.
You heard me. (Thank you for donating the gift certificate to Adam and Eve, Kate!)
  10. Spanking.
What, I have to explain this one? πŸ˜€

What are you waiting for? Go and sign up for Ana’s Advent Calendar 2013 before all the bonus entries are gone!

Other than signing up for the Advent Calendar, how will you spend Black Friday?

Best wishes on what looks to be a great turnout for your Advent Calendar event, Ana. You’ve certainly put a lot of thought and effort into advancing the holiday spirit. It’s so nice that you continue to reach out and encourage people to remain engaged in camaraderie with you and each other by sparking interest to participate in this fun and festive activity.

Black Friday? I’m avoiding that nightmarish crush of traffic jams, jostling bruises, ridiculously long checkout lines and other mob-mentality horrors. I’m appalled at the news reports of fighting and injury incidents that have been broadcast already this morning. I love the wonder, excitement and busyness of the season, but this frenzy seems such an abomination of the Christmas spirit. πŸ˜₯ I hope my friends who have fun shopping and finding great deals know places to go that are far less dangerous and crazy! πŸ˜‰

Today and this weekend, we’re going to play some music, make space for our Christmas tree, unpack ornaments and decorations for inspection, make homemade noodles in turkey broth to eat with leftover Thanksgiving dinner, play a board game with the kids, probably watch too much television, maybe bake cookies, do a little online shopping, and just spend time together. I wish everyone else would wake up so we can get started! Lol!

Glad you’ll be joining the holiday fun, Irishey! I hope people will realize they don’t have to celebrate or even like Christmas to enjoy the company.

Christmas spirit is about finding time with our loved ones. Gifts aren’t necessary or even important–we do ourselves a disservice when we buy into a mentality that says otherwise. We are lucky to have a safe home, food to eat, and someone to share the blessings. That’s all. πŸ™‚

Homemade noodles–yum! Sounds delicious. A little mindless enjoyment sounds good, too.

Bet people will wake up less cranky if you don’t blast the bullhorn to get them up. πŸ˜›

I plan on playing on the computer, doing laundry, hemming pants, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, and going to lunch at Texas de Brazil Steakhouse.

  3. Joelle Casteel says:

yeah for the advent calendar. although, nope, anything of the good things I listed to my Master weren’t on the list πŸ˜€ I told Him about the “sign up before 12/1” and the “perfect attendance” bonuses. Oh and I explained about the prizes and the daily postings and the fun questions. yup, Advent Calendar much better than Black Friday. Master is still in “enjoy mixed drinks because the jerks fired me before Thanksgiving” and we’re waiting for crowds to be less bad before we go buy Him more cola

I just love hearing what everyone else is doing! What on earth is Black Friday – it sounds like something bad happening on Wall Street?! It’s a lovely sunny Friday here and I just bought some German chocolate little decorations to hand from the Christmas tree for my grandkids – well, one of them anyway. I am so looking forward to participating in your Advent Calendar this year.

In our little town they are switching on the Christmas lights tonight and having a Christmas Fayre (yes, Ana, lots of Sloe Gin!) and baked potatoes and hot chestnuts….. Dan is down there at the moment, helping them with a generator to keep things going – now that could be a big mistake! LOL!

    Let the countdown begin!

    • Anastasia Vitsky says:

Black Friday is a crazy free-for-all capitalizing (pun intended) on the tradition of people shopping for Christmas gifts the day after Thanksgiving. Only it’s become so crazy that stores open on Thanksgiving Day.

      Yummy on the chocolate decorations!

You and sloe gin! Uh oh…

I’ll never forget how disappointed I was at my first roasted chestnut. It sounds so lovely and holidayish in books, but in real life it was kind of boring and tasteless. Ah well, maybe it’s an acquired taste. πŸ˜€

      Two days left!

      • nancygoldberglevine says:

l think tasteless may win again as 2013 Word of the Year…lol…
My husband loved roasted chestnuts and became an expert at making them. They were good. When l first met him, he brought over a jar of chestnut sauce, a sweet sauce that you could serve over ice cream…it was very good…l got my love of Chinese food from him, too. Before he came along, my parents and l were eating Chung King chow mein…lol

  5. catrouble says:

LOL Ana…I do like 9 out of 10 of your reasons. Can definitely do without #10 unless it is for someone else. πŸ˜‰

Am avoiding all shopping….totally appalled at what I am seeing on the news…the fighting, etc…those people deserve spankings!

Have been painting most of yesterday and today…trying to get the youngest grand’s paintings done.

    Hugs and Blessings…

  6. Roz says:

LoL Ana, already signed up πŸ™‚ So true! Although it seems plenty of people are willing to go shopping in their jammies! Really can’t understand that.

I’m afraid Friday was a normal day for me at work – sigh. Today though (Saturday) we have to go out and replace a broken lawn mower. Grrr. Just as well the pre-xmas sales are around!

My sincere thanks to you and all the helper elves for organising this wonderful event.

  7. Leona Bowman says:

I love the ten most reason why this is better then black friday.. I know I went yesturday to get a extra $12 off my cords which I get 50% off all ready, because I am employed there.. But dame I still had to get up early because of it.. and it only lasted a few hours in the morning.. But I will be susprised if I win anything from the adv calendar.. because I have not luck on contest.. hahaha..
    have a great day..

  8. robskatie says:

Great reasons to join in, Ana!!! And all of your hard work, and those of others is and continues to be much appreciated! πŸ™‚

I skipped the shopping today. Tomorrow is another day, and I have no interest in braving the crowds and chaos. Not to say that I have never been at a store at midnight, hoping to get my hands on some wanted toy, in years gone past…

SOOOO excited for your advent calendar. Equally excited to see who will win the Katie T Special!!! πŸ˜€ Many hugs,

    ❀ Katie
