Boy oh boy, do I have some excitement for you! Rogue wrote to me this week wanting to contribute to the Advent Calendar fun. She asked me what to give, and of course I had an idea! I wanted to take the lovely artwork and graphics, courtesy of Minelle and Katie, and create a holiday photo card the way my family has done every Christmas since the beginning of time. Except this card isn’t quite so family friendly. 🙂 25 of these beautiful cards are being printed as we speak, and I’ll be thrilled to pick winners for them throughout the month. Lucky us! Thank you, Rogue!
A few serious words about the Advent Calendar.
So far, 80 people have signed up to play. Because of the anticipated high rate of attendance and because there are quite a few new people, let me give a few reminders. I’m sure we know them already, but please bear with me.
When you play Ana’s Advent Calendar 2013, please be:
Fair. One account per person, please. I will check new registrants to make sure they don’t duplicate existing accounts, and all prize winners will be cross-checked with existing databases (meaning people who have commented on Governing Ana before and/or those who have played in previous events). Please play fairly so everyone can enjoy the Advent Calendar equally.
Respectful. Everyone here at Governing Ana has shown respect for each other in discussions, so let’s continue the tradition. There’s no reason to engage in controversial debates or self-promotion.
Community-minded. Authors, I am thrilled to have you join the fun. Thank you for not only contributing but playing as well. Please keep your comments community-minded. No mentions of your books, please. Bloggers and authors, no mentions of your websites.
Patient. Advent Calendar is a labor of love funded by many generous publishers, companies, authors, and individuals. None of us get any compensation except a little PR and the knowledge we’ve helped to make your holiday a bit brighter. Read the instructions, double-check the rules, and be patient if you don’t get instant answers or perfect prizes.
A side note: Due to the volume of messages and mail I receive during these events, please allow extra time for responses. I have a family and job and real life, too. 🙂
Friendly. Read the comments for each day, and respond to something that strikes your fancy. Say hello to someone new and welcome him or her to the group. It can be scary to comment on a blog for the first time, and sometimes people feel intimidated. Let’s do what we can to make this a fun event for everyone, shall we?
Kind. Help someone out who may be confused. If you know the answer to a question, speak up. We’re all here together. 🙂
Appreciative. All of the Advent Calendar prizes are donations. Please contact your prize donor promptly (after four days, your prize will be re-assigned to someone else), comment on your prize announcement post (right here on governingana.wordpress.com) once you’ve received your prize, and send a thank you note. Appreciation will make the difference between one-time prize donors and those who will return for the 3rd Annual Advent Calendar in 2014. If you want the fun to continue, take good care of our sponsors. 🙂
Prompt. The deadline for comments each day is midnight EST (UTC -5). The posts will go up each morning around 6 or 8 AM EST, so you will have 18 hours to comment. You are welcome to comment after that time, but it will not count as a prize entry.
However, if you live outside North/South America (especially in Asia or Australia) and plan to play regularly, please talk with me.
Thoughtful. Nothing wastes people’s time more than the copy-and-paste comments such as “thx for a great hop!” or “I hope I win!” or “So fun!”
Best case scenario: I delete your comment.
Worst case scenario (especially for a repeat offense): I get annoyed and disqualify you from the entire Advent Calendar.
Ana’s Advent Calendar is about community, camaraderie, and friendship. Please keep that in mind when you write your comments.
Let’s go on to the most important one:
FUN! Let’s enjoy this month, shall we? I can’t wait! 😀
